Blower door tests are used
to assess the construction quality of the building envelope, locate air
leakage pathways, assess how much ventilation is supplied by the air
leakage, assess the energy losses resulting from that air leakage,
determine if the building too tight or too lose, and determine if the
building needs mechanical ventilation.
The blower door is a key component
of an energy audit. Other areas noted are existing insulation
levels, windows, doors and the heating systems. Data gathered can
then be entered into a computer program such as Hot 2000 which can then
provide a rating on the house.
The EnerGuide Rating System (ERS)
is a standard measure of the energy performance of new and existing
homes. The rating allows you to compare the energy performance of one
house against another and should be a valuable feature for home buyers
and sellers. If the home has had an energy audit done, the
Energuide Label is typically found on the electrical panel.
